The lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes are certainly very devious and tricky. Jesus saved this evil trait for last: It’s “the pride of life.” This desire can get out of control and we can stir up envy and admiration in other people. When Eve was in the Garden, the devil tempted her with the fruit that could “make one wise.” Her eyes would be opened and she would become “like God, knowing good and evil.” The pride of life can develop in us the desire to be seen and known. It affects us in our every day life through the clothes we wear, where we live and what kind of car we want to drive. While there is nothing wrong with these things, the sin comes in how we allow them to control us. Some study the Bible not to have fellowship with God but to impress others. This is a sign of spiritual immaturity.
