OUR LORD’S GIFT

The Scripture reading today is about the old and new wineskins.. The disciples of John the Baptist wanted to know why they fasted and the disciples of Jesus did not. Jesus offered them a new teaching that was very different from what they had experienced before with John and even more different than the disciples of the Pharisees, who went by the law and the teaching of the Jewish faith. They were holding onto their traditions.
Jesus used the example of the old goatskins which are used to store wine. Once the wine is fermented, the skins conform to its contents. After it is used, they are thrown away. If used again for new unfermented wine, the process of fermentation would break the skins because they cannot stretch.
DISCARD THE OLD WHICH BINDS US AND EMBRACE THE NEW MESSAGE OF SALVATION
